Evaluation of diastolic function by the Tissue doppler in children affected by non- compaction

The Tissue doppler analysis is a new echocardiographic approach to evaluate the diastolic function. In this report we performed a Tissue doppler analysis in a series of 15 children affected by non-compaction. The bidimensional echo-cardiogram showed a systolic function which was reduced only in 8 patients. Alterations of the diastolic function were founded in 7 patients: in 2 cases, a reduction of the E tissue wave was present in all segments. In 3 patients the diastolic dysfunction was limited to apical and lateral segments. In the last 2 children a reduction of the E wave interested only the apical segments. Glucose insulin potassium infusion improves systolic function in patients with chronic ischemic cardiomyopathy

Objective: We assessed the effects of glucose–insulin–potassium (GIK) by echocardiography in stable patients with ischemic dysfunction. Methods: Twelve male patients with stable coronary disease (SCD) and ejection fraction (EF) <45% were studied for systolic function. GIK (glucose 30%, 300 insulin units and KCl 6 g/l) was infused at 1 ml/kg per h over 20 min. Hemodynamic and echocardiographic measurements were recorded at rest (T0), at the end (20 min) of GIK infusion (T + 20), 20 and 40 min after the end of the infusion (T + 40 and T + 60). Impact of high-fat diet on antioxidant status, vascular wall thickening and cardiac function in adult female LDLR&lt;sup&gt;–/–&lt;/sup&gt; mice

International audience; Background: Western diet, rich in saturated fatty acids and cholesterol, is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. We thus investigated in female mice the influence of this diet on plasma antioxidant status, vascular wall thickening and cardiac function. Methods and Results: Adult female C57BL/6J wild type (WT) and LDLR–/– mice were fed a normal diet (ND) or a high-fat diet (HFD) for 17 weeks. Effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on cardiac structure and function.

SGLT2 inhibitors reduce cardiovascular death or hospitalization for heart failure, regardless of the presence or absence of diabetes in patients at high cardiovascular risk and in those with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). In patients with HF and preserved EF, empagliflozin also showed favorable effects mainly related to the reduction of hospitalization for heart failure. These favorable effects are beyond the reduction of glycemic levels and mainly related to beneficial hemodynamic and anti-inflammatory effects of these drugs and improved cardiac energy metabolism. Left ventricular diastolic and systolic function in normotensive obese subjects: influence of degree and duration of obesity.

The present study was carried out to evaluate systolic and diastolic parameters in overweight and moderately obese, but otherwise healthy subjects, and in a lean control group, to determine whether degree and duration of obesity can influence left ventricular function. A total of 27 subjects, 17 overweight or with moderate obesity and 10 lean, healthy subjects were included. Tricuspid Regurgitation and Mortality Risk Across Left Ventricular Systolic Function in Acute Heart Failure.

BACKGROUND Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a common echocardiographic finding that has been related to adverse outcome under various clinical scenarios. Nevertheless, evidence supporting its prognostic value in heart failure (HF) is scarce, and, in most cases, contradictory. We evaluated the association of TR grade with 1-year all-cause mortality in acute HF (AHF). METHODS AND RESULTS: We included 1,842 consecutive patients admitted for AHF. Mean age was 72.8±11.3 years, 51% were female and 45.5% had LVEF <50%. The severity of TR was graded in non-TR, mild (1), moderate (2), moderate-severe (3) and severe (4). Reduced regional systolic function evolved compacted segments in noncompaction

Abstract In a recent report about noncompaction Nemes et al. reported that systolic left ventricular (LV) dysfunction assessed using the wall motion score during 2D echocardiography in noncompaction is not confined to noncompacted LV segments. These results confirmed some published reports of our group.
